Castle Hawk Golf Club
Castle Hawk Golf Club Manchester
Castle Hawk is the self-proclaimed "friendliest golf club in the UK" and the vast range of facilities it offers would certainly add weight to its claim. Boasting both an eighteen and a nine hole course, it also has a bar and restaurant on the grounds which are open seven days a week, and there are shower and changing rooms facilities also.
The course itself is somewhat generous also, consisting of entirely par 3 holes on the outward nine. Indeed, only the twelfth and seventeenth stray from the par 3 formula, the latter being a monstrous, demanding par 5 with more than the odd hazard to overcome to keep your scorecard looking respectable.
Originally founded in 1896 under the title Clayton golf club, Brookdale was renamed upon its move to Lord Lane Failsworth in September 1905, where it was a very popular nine-hole course. There it stayed until 1962 when it moved to its present home in the Woodhouses area of Failsworth, and became a twelve-hole course. Its popularity and membership increased, forcing the purchase of new land to make it an eighteen-hole course, a project completed in 1973.
Measuring 5645 yards, with a par of 68, off the yellow tees, it is not a particularly long course so the real challenge comes from choosing your clubs carefully to avoid overhitting and missing the green. Golfers of all abilities will find this a demanding but ultimately rewarding course.
